Viburnums generally tend to have few disease problems other than occasional leaf spots, powdery mildew or root rots. However, in FL the occurrence of downy mildew in recent years has risen to epidemic levels in production and in landscape plantings.
As part of grant funding from USDA-NIFA SCRI, a team of researchers compiled known information on viburnum downy mildew, factors affecting its appearance and ways to mitigate its damage. The result is a dossier covering plant and fungal biology, disease epidemiology and symptoms, host range and geographic distribution along with management options and genomics.
